Minute With Mallon: Work Bliss: Are You Aligned?
Welcome to Minute with Mallon!
Something I Taught:
According to the most recent survey results I could find from the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the average person with a job works 7.95 hours a day. Multiply that by 5 days a week and then by 40 years, and you end up working around 10,000 8-hour days during your life.
You'd hope a person would be happy and find their work satisfying during that time.
And yet, according to a Gallup survey in 2021, a little over two thirds of us are not enjoying or engaged in their work.
It's very important for a person to pick the type of career that fits their personality.
There are 4 main types of personalities:
Thinkers: 20%
Directors: 5%
Socializers: 20%
Relators: 55%
Recently, I was working with a client on his 90-Day Goals. One of the categories we were discussing was Career/Professional.
As we talked about his future, my client kept dropping words into our conversation like analyze, logical, evaluate, etc. I'm sure you can figure out which quadrant he's in – Thinker.
The problem is that right now he's not working in a Thinker-type position, and as a result he's not as motivated or enthusiastic about his job as he would like to be. He's actually doing the work of a Director and it doesn't "feel" right to him. But no one had ever explained to him the differences in personality types and the jobs that match them.
Choosing a career that aligns with one's personality type is crucial because it fosters a natural inclination towards the tasks that the job demands. It also promotes genuine engagement, satisfaction, and well-being.

(That thought is so valuable 💰)
Many merely clock in and out, trading their energy and time for money, with eyes set on retirement, missing the opportunity to find joy and purpose in their daily work. 🕔
It’s like watching an episode of The Walking Dead!
. . . Back to my client:
He's in his early-mid 30s. When we began talking about the different personality types, he lit up! 💡 He became very animated when I began telling him about the types of jobs Thinkers thrive in.
The good news? He works in a large company that has plenty of Thinker-type positions. So, he's having a conversation with the person he reports to in order to discuss options for eventually moving into a position that would suit him better and utilize the gifts that God has given him.

There are several tests that you can take to learn more about your (or your child's) personality type. Five that I've used with clients and on myself are:
● DISC
● Myers/Briggs
● Enneagram
● Strengthsfinder
● Kolbe
Today, their depth and precision are remarkable!
➡️ One piece of advice: If you're going to take one of the tests, pay a little bit more and have someone from the company walk you through the results. This allows you to ask questions, get clarity and benefit from their expertise! The knowledge gleaned from this process is gold and can lead to true and ongoing satisfaction in your work life! 🥇
Something I Learned:
I read this idea recently and honestly can't remember the source, but I believe it was from a gentleman named Kevin Kelley. (I’m paraphrasing here a bit
We think we have no discipline. That's not true! You are 100% disciplined in certain areas of your life, specifically your existing habits. The question is, which are taking you up, and which are taking you down. You can be 100% disciplined in whatever you want. Just create the habit.
That's so true, and worth taking a few minutes to think about.
What's one habit you could begin today to add long-term value to your life?
Something to Ponder:
"The chains of habit are too weak to be felt until they are too strong to be broken."
