Minute With Mallon: Success Without Sacrifice!
Welcome to Minute with Mallon!
Something I Taught:
You can have it all!
I was working with a brand-new client yesterday. He owns a very large business and in the eyes of the world, he's a very successful person.
As we dug into his life, he shared what truly matters to him: growing in his faith, strengthening his marriage, being an incredible father, building deep friendships, and making a positive impact on the world around him. Then, he added his business goal—to build one of the biggest companies in his sector.
The problem? He spends nearly all his time focused on the business, often at the expense of everything else.
I had him list out his priorities on paper. When he looked at it, something hit him—business was the last thing he had written. Yet, it was getting almost all his attention.
It was a very important thing for him to realize!
The good news is, I told him he can absolutely build the business he envisions—but it will take time. I also pointed out that time with his children is limited, and some will be leaving home soon, making it crucial to prioritize what matters most in the immediate term.
So we had to set some priorities as to what is most important for him RIGHT NOW!
Another important insight for him was that he's so busy working in the business, that he’s not working on the business. So that’s what at least our first year will be about: figuring out how to grow his business as a leader of people, and to quit trying to do it all himself.
I know that I can help him accomplish these goals. I’ve done it with many other business owners and leaders over the last 22 years. But it will take time…
The key is patience and consistency of action. I told him that I would hold him accountable. You’ve probably heard me say this before, but I provide loving accountability, sometimes with a big stick! 🤣
What about you? What are the true priorities in your life? Write a list, and then think about whether you're taking actions leading you towards success in those areas or away from them.
Take a moment to write down the five most important priorities in your life—it might be faith, family, health, friendships, business, or whatever truly matters to you. Then ask yourself: Are my daily actions aligned with these priorities? If not, what’s one small step you can take this week to start shifting in the right direction? You CAN have it all—but only if you’re intentional. So, what’s your next move? 💪🚀
Something to Ponder:
“We make a living by what we get. We make a life by what we give.”

Something I Learned:
Another excerpt from the book, "Inner Excellence," by a man named Jim Murphy. (Loving this book!)
Dawn Staley was a professional basketball player who won three gold medals in the Olympic Games. She describes her perspective in preparation for the Olympics:
"Winning the gold medal is my goal, not my dream. My dream is about playing to win as often as possible with and against the best women basketball players in the world. Winning the gold medal as a goal gives me some direction, but my dream is something I need to live every day. And I’m doing that each time I play to win… When I’m playing to win, that’s when I feel resonance. If I win, that’s great. I want to win, and having the gold medal as my goal forces me to play to win. But what I love to do, what my dream is, is to play to win."
Dawn loves playing to win; that’s when she feels alive. When the game is over, it’s over. Wins or losses are just feedback—the real joy and passion is in the playing. If you can truly play—without attachment to what happens when it’s over—it creates such a positive energy that it resets the nervous system (totally recharges you). If there’s one art that has become more and more lost in our busy lives, it’s the ability to play like a kid, completely free.
