Something I Taught:

Happy New Year!

Hope you had a wonderful Christmas season and so glad to continue this journey with you this year!  It's going to be fun!!!

Christmas morning, I was having a conversation with my son Clint.  He was telling me about some great things happening in his life.  At a certain point, everything he was saying that was working for him reminded me of something I'd learned in a book called, The Slight Edge by Jeff Olson.  If you've been reading this newsletter for a while, you may remember that I've occasionally discussed things I learned in the book.  Seriously fantastic read!

I grabbed the book, found what I was looking for, and asked Clint to read the two pages to himself.  At the end he said,

"That's exactly it!

Today I want to share with you what I showed him, hoping that its application will significantly improve your 2025.

Jeff struggled in his early years.  He was hungry for success, but couldn’t find the right formula to get it.  So towards the beginning of the book he describes a process he discovered which got him on the right track.  It's called Simple Daily Disciplines

I'm going to quote directly from the book:

"That's what I'd been doing.  And that's what so many people do, living their lives like this, oscillating between failure and survival, striving toward success and maybe even reaching the level of success, but then invariably turning back and heading downward again.  We do this in our finances, in our health, in our relationships and in our lives as a whole.

As I began examining my successes and failures, what I gradually realized was that the very same activities that had rescued me from failure, that had carried me from the failure line up to the survival line, would also rescue me from average and carry me from the survival line to the success line--if I would just keep doing them.

And that was exactly the point: that was exactly what I wasn't doing.  Without realizing it or thinking about it, I would stop doing the things that had gotten me there.

That's the only reason our lives follow that roller coaster.  It's that simple.  As soon as we get away from failure and up past the line of survival, we quit doing the things that got us there.

That's the only reason our lives follow that roller coaster.  It's that simple.  As soon as we get away from failure and up past the line of survival, we quit doing the things that got us there.

All you have to do is keep doing the things that go you this far.

Which is exactly what 99.9 percent of people don't do."

This works with your physical life, your career, your relational life, your finances, your hobbies, the spiritual part of your life, your plan for continually educating yourself, etc.

ALL AREAS OF LIFE!

So what's one area of your life that pops into your mind right now that you want to improve in 2025?  And then, what's one Simple Daily Discipline you will commit to?

Reply to this newsletter and let me know!  I promise not to harass you, but by you just sending it to me, your level of commitment will increase substantially!

Wishing you growth, success, and daily wins in 2025!
